Unitec is New Zealand’s largest institute of technology, with more than 20,000 students studying over 150 work-oriented programmes. Unitec offers leading employment-focused education at their three campuses in Mt. Albert, Waitakere and Albany.
The Mt Albert Campus is the institute base and is where 70% of the student body study and learn. The campus is a 10-minute drive to the city, and a short walk to the nearest shops, bus stops and train station.
Unitec teaching is divided among its 22 departments, most offering short courses, certificates, diplomas, degrees and further education pathways. Courses on offer range from Acting and Architecture through Dance and Marine Technology to Photography and Sport, with most of what you could hope for between these.
Get an apprenticeship with Unitec
Unitec will prepare school leavers for an apprenticeship or traineeship by providing the education and training needed to gain the skills for the trade. The programmes offered are closely linked with the relevant trades industries who recognise the quality of Unitec graduate apprentices. Unitec provides the training and education for apprenticeships in these areas: Automotive, Building, Electrical, Furniture and cabinetmaking along with Plumbing and gasfitting.

Unitec provides an extensive range of foundation or bridging programmes for school leavers who may not have enough NCEA grades to start degree study. These programmes, most of 16-weeks duration, really make the step into degree studies at Unitec or elsewhere able to be achieved.
Accommodation at Unitec
There is some accommodation available through Unitec with a residential village on campus, and Unitec can assist students gain access to other student accommodation that is shared with other institutions. Homestay and flatting options can be assisted by Unitec student support staff.
